Dani Cruises Into 16s
Daniela stormed into the third round of the Olympic Tennis Event on Monday afternoon, breaking away with 10 games in a row from 2-3 in the first set to cruise past Alize Cornet, 63 60. It was the first time Daniela and Cornet were playing each other on grass and it ended up being the most lopsided decision of their nine-match head-to-head history, as Daniela blasted 23 winners to just 10 unforced errors to beat the Frenchwoman for the fourth straight time.
"I played great, especially winning 10 games in a row, which felt awesome," Daniela said after the match. "I'm just really pleased to be here and playing for my country and this very special place."
Daniela has now made this her very best Olympics, having fallen in the second round in her previous two, at Athens in 2004 (losing to Patty Schnyder) and at Beijing in 2008 (losing to Caroline Wozniacki). Next up is some deja vu: Wozniacki. Wozniacki, the No.8 seed here, has a 3-1 lead in their head-to-head, though Daniela did win their last meeting.
